ASSE Low Country Chapter Holiday Meeting

Make sure you reserve your spot for our December 1, 2008 evening meeting atop the Round Holiday Inn in the Harborview Restaurant. Our speaker will be Jim Morris, the ASSE Region VI Vice President.

January 2009 Chapter Meeting

Tuesday, January 20, 2009 - Nucor Steel - Berkeley

OHSAS 18001 & ANSI Z10 Implementation
Presentation by Randy Cooper & Mike Furr, NUCOR Steel

Mike Furr and Randy Cooper will present on ANSI Z10 and OHSAS 18001. They will have their pre-audit in November and final audit in December and are expected to be registered and certified to both standards by January 2009. They are also awaiting SC OSHA to set dates for their VPP audit. If they are able to complete all three items, they will be the only facility in the US that is ANSI Z10, OHSAS 18001, and VPP certified. Their presentation will be immediately followed by a tour of the Melt Shop.

Nucor Melt Shop Tour

Nucor will provide all PPE required, EXCEPT SHOES. They only require closed-toed shoes, so no open-toed shoes are allowed. They will provide hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, and flame resistant jackets. There is a five minute security video that we will view as a group, once everyone has arrived. They will require everyone to sign a safety document acknowledging that they have viewed the safety precautions and you MUST BE ESCORTED AT ALL TIMES through the mill. Randy Cooper will have the security gate allow us in, so attendees are to identify themselves as part of the ASSE tour group.
